Relationship Between Organizational Culture -Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Relationship Between Organizational Culture? Answer: Introduction Leadership and management are very important within the context of an organization. It forms the backbone or the building block of an organization. The leadership style is reflected within the culture of san organization. A good and positive leadership is extremely important in keeping the employees motivated as well as enhance the productivity of the organization. The leadership styles adopted often varies with respect to individual organizations and further governs the success of the organization. There are many approaches to a leadership model which is defined by the core principles adopted by a leadership model. Some of the chosen core principles for the present assignment are ethics, teamwork and leadership theory based on which the leadership model suitable for the current organization have been developed. Additionally, the issues faced within the implication of the current leadership models have been analysed over here in order to address the specific issues or challenge. Analysing the current leadership model One of the main issues which are faced with respect to the implementation of my current organizational leadership model is low employee engagement. Presently, the Andrews Airport parking has been facing a large number of employee turnovers which had been affecting the survival of the company within the global aviation industry (andrewsairportpark.com 2017). I personally feel that the lack of employee engagement could be accounted to the lack of affective working relationships within the organization. In my opinion, the disengagement of the employees could be attributed to lack of effective leadership styles and approaches. In this respect the personality traits of a leader further governs the kinds of approaches selected by him. A least engaged and callous leader is mostly focused upon getting the work done rather than reflecting upon the means of doing it. According to me this kind of leadership approach is effective in brining a rapid change within the organization. However, as argued by Higgs and Dulewicz (2016), micro changes are needful for a macro transformation. Therefore, proceeding upon the organizational changes gradually could be more practical than focussing upon the end result (Mendenhall et al. 2017). Traits, skills and tasks of an effective leader A number of traits are required for an effective leadership within an organization which areteam building, decisiveness, implementing change leadership. In my opinion, organizational conflicts and authoritarian approaches are some of the factors which hinder the success of an organization by taking away sufficient freedom from the employees. Some of the recent issues which had affected the organizational culture of the Andrews Airport Parking are overworked staffs, less pay, organizational disputes (andrewsairportpark.com 2017). The leaders were ineffective in managing the teams properly as well as lacked required decision making skills. As commented by Rauter et al. (2017), the lack of effective systems and technologies hindered drafting of an affective financial report. This further affected the competing of the organization within the global market. As argued by Higgs and Dulewicz (2016), using systems such as Q-CAT can help in making important organizational decisions. However, t he organization lacked sufficiently skilled management who lacked expertise in the similar areas. Additionally, some of our management staffs were fresh new recruits who had no prior experience in handling and management of similar organizational disputes. Core values of leadership model (refer to appendix) The leadership model is guided by a number of core values such as respect, integrity, authenticity courage, service, humility and wisdom. One of the core principles of the leadership approach used by me over here would be respect. The value of respect emphasises upon treating others with dignity, empathy and compassion. The implementation of respect as the core value of the model also means one needs to learn the skills for earning the respect of others within an organization (Birdand Mendenhall 2016). Therefore, the core value could be expanded into the development of a personal leadership model. Some of the main aspects of leadership which would be taken into consideration by me over here are treating others with dignity, compassion and empathy as well as earning the good will of fellow co-workers. Expected culture of the organisation If the model of organisational leadership is applied to Andrews Airport parking then the main cultural change that will get reflected in the organisation is motivated team which excels in strategic communication, effective listening and high team involvement (Wrigley and Bucolo 2012). An organisational leadership model will lead to a huge transformation in the culture of the organisation which supports shared values, belief and perceptions held by the employees. Because the culture of the organisation reflects behavioural norms that are used by the staffs of the organisation in order to give meaning to the situations that they experienced, it can influence the behaviour and attitudes of the staffs (Tsai 2011). Andrews Airport Parking if leaders on the shoulders of the organisational leadership model, will understand the core values of the organisation that will help in the prevention of the internal conflict and thereby reducing employee turnover. Organisational leadership model also supports functionalist perspective thereby providing an impressive evidence of the role of the culture in the organisation towards improving the overall performance of the employees (Tsai 2011). The cultural of the organisation will be more ethical where the leaders are nimble in balancing truth and loyalty along with short term and long term justice and mercy. Such ethical implications will be strictly impartial and the leaders with make use of the ethical approach to look for the hidden alterative in certain situations which are ethically questionable (Shockley-Zalabak 2014). Effective communication will also take centre stage which will give preference to values, assumptions, belief and expectation (VABEs). Effective communication in turn will focus on the areas of agreement while effectively listening to the messages of other. As per my understanding, this approach of effective listening will reduce the rate of difference among the employees and thereby promoting more team performance via negating disputes (Shockley-Zalabak 2014). Organisational Leadership Seeking to Achieve The model of organisational leadership, as proposed by me as a medium to attain success to Andrews Airport Parking will main seek to achieve three different wings of leadership model. First it will take efforts in understanding the leadership type where the leaders will have positive and ambitious future direction wrapped with clear vision of code of ethics. Next domain that will be excavated will be display of proper leadership in proper domains of the organisation. Here the leadership forces will have a strong commitment towards the well-being and morale of workforce of all level of the organisation. Moreover, it will also preach innovation within the existing work culture (Lee 2011). Lastly, the organisational leadership style will also promote towards the development of effective leadership. Here the forces will have strong ethos towards the personal development while taking accountability for their own work and helping others in emergency situation. Moreover, such leadership sty les will also promote effective program I indentifying evolving talent in the group and thereby providing appreciation to the team mates and increasing the level of employee motivation and job satisfaction. The leadership forces will also move from a target-driven culture towards qualitative model that allows the staffs to use their own discretion on drawing on an evidence base of what works and what not (Lee 2011). Benefits of using leadership model and comparison with existing leadership models There are a number of benefits of using the particular leadership model within the organization such as dissolvent of the internal conflicts along with settlement of the productivity gaps. This form of leadership model is guided by an ethical culture. It consists of a number of informal and formal systems which works together to establish an ethical conduct within the organization. It is further supported by one of the oldest theories of common good, which states that the good of an individual is inseparable from the good of the organization within which the employee works (Rosemann et al. 2014). The leadership model used over here is different from the one currently operated within the Andrews airport parking which follows a stringent set of rules and organisational principles rather than giving the employees the flexibility to work and learn as per their requirement. The goal is move towards a more situational and flexible model. Application of leadership model As a part of the management committee I need to hold sufficient respect and empathy for my staff. My goal would be to understand the personal growth targets of my staff and help them in achieving the same. Therefore, I should not force them to simply satisfy the organizational targets. As commented by Purcell (2014), overworked staff is often the most disengaged staffs and leads to massive organizational turnover. Additionally, another sole concern of the leadership mode used by me would be to earn the good will of the employees working for my organization (Bedarkar and Pandita 2014). This would help me in reducing the massive turnover rates. Some of the programmes implemented by me in this regard would be to train the employees in using the recent technologies as frequently as possible. As commented by Goleman (2017), employee motivation through timely appraisals is another way to motivate the staff. Conclusion In this respect, adopting a situational leadership style would help me in adapting to requirements of the organization gradually. Additionally, adaptation of the model would give more flexibility to the staff for learning and development of their personal skills. In addition, conducting random internal audits can also help in understanding the gaps within the organizational process. The ethical leadership style adopted over here was to emphasise upon the common good of the employees which also takes into consideration their personal growths rather than simply achieving organizational targets References andrewsairportpark.com (2017), andrewsairportpark.com , available at : https://www.andrewsairportpark.com.au/About-Us [Accessed on 26 Jan 2018] Bedarkar, M. and Pandita, D., 2014. Omprakash Valmikiââ¬â¢s voice is today recognized as an empowered voice of a writer who à works à on behalf of Dalits. Himself born in a desperately poor family in North India, the lowest caste in Indian society, a community of the illiteratre Untouchables , he describes from his personal experiences the torments of the Dalits who even have no right to fight for education or food. He describes how these people are subject to an institutionalized slavery. The highest purpose of Dalit writing is not beauty of craft, but authenticity of experience. Omprakash gives us an anatomy of oppression. Most significantly, though, Valmikis story is a voice from the half of India that has been voiceless for countless generations. We will write a custom essay sample on Om Prakash Valmikis Jhootan or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Valmiki and a few others like him have breached an opening for our understanding and knowledge about a people so marginalized that they disappeared from the worlds awareness, their cultures, lifestyles, folk knowledge, and aspirations represented nowhere in mainstream or scholarly sources. Joothanà by by Omprakash Valmiki is à one such work of Dalit literature, first published in Hindi in 1997 and translated into English by Arun Prabha Mukherjee in 2003. Arun Prabha Mukherjee, a professor of English at York University in Canada b did a great job by making the work available to a wider audience, She hasà illuminated the book with her thoughtful and insightful foreword. Dalits today constitute about one sixth of Indias population. Spread over the entire country, speaking many languages, and belonging to many religions, they have become a major political force. Jhootanà is a memoir of growing up ââ¬Ëuntouchableââ¬â¢ starting in the 1950s outside a typical village in Uttar Pradesh. Joothan literally means scraps of food left on a plate, destined for the garbage or for the family pet in a middle-class urban home. It is related to the word jootha, which means polluted, and such scraps are characterized as joothan only if someone else eats them. Indias untouchables have been forced to accept and eat joothan for their subsistence for centuries. The word encapsulates the pain, humiliation, and poverty of this community, which has lived at the bottom of Indias social pyramid for millennia. Viramma is an agricultural worker and midwife in Karani, a village near Pondicherry in southeast India. Viramma is a member of the caste called Untouchable. Of her 12 children, only three survive. Virammas storytold over the course of 10 yearsis a vivid portrayal of a proud and expressive woman living at the margins of society. Basically the focus is on untouchability which was abolished in 1949 only in paper. For decades after that, the dalits continued to face discrimination, economic deprivation, violence, and ridicule. Valmiki shares his heroic struggle to survive a preordained life of perpetual physical and mental persecution and his transformation into a speaking subject under the influence of the great Dalit political leader, B. R. Ambedkar. A document of the long-silenced and long-denied sufferings of the Dalits, Joothan is a major contribution to the archives of Dalit history . Told as a series of piercing vignettes,à Joothanà is also a remarkable record of a rare Indian journey, one that took a boy from extremely wretched socioeconomic conditions to prominence. It is a rare glimpse into that other history of India , of marginalized section of people about whom few talks and almost nobody writes. Omprakash Valmiki describes his life as an untouchable, or Dalit, in the newly independent India of the 1950s.. As a document of the long silenced and long denied sufferings of the Dalits,à Joothanà is not only a contribution to the archives of Dalit history, but a manifesto for the revolutionary transformation of society and human consciousness. Valmiki was born into the Chuhra caste (aka Bhangi)à whose ordained jobà it was to sweep the roads, clean the cattle barns, get shift off the floor, dispose of dead animals, work the fieldsà during harvests, and perform other physical labour for upper caste people , including the Tyagi Brahmins who called out not by their names but as ââ¬Ëou chuhreââ¬â¢ or ââ¬Ëabey chuhreââ¬â¢ which reflects disdain and hate. They could touch cows and even stray dogs, but not the Chuhra people who were forced to live outside the village reserved for upper caste people. Untouchableà is Mulk Raj Anands first novel and it brought to him immense popularity and prestige. This novel shows the realistic picture of society. In this novel Anand has portrayed a picture of untouchable who is sweeper boy. This character is the representative of all down trodden society in pre-independence of India. The protagonist of this novel is the figure of suffering because of his caste. With Bakha, the central character, there are other characters who also suffer because of their lower caste. They live in mud-walled cottages huddled colony in which people are scavengers, the leather-workers, the washer men, the barbers, the water-carriers, the grass-cutters and other outcastes. The lower castes people are suffering because they are by birth outcaste. But Mulk Raj Anand had depicted the hypocrisy of the upper caste people that men like Pt. Kali Nath enjoy the touch of the Harijan girls. Mulk Raj Anand exposes all this hypocrisy and double standard or double dealing. In this novel Bakha is a universal figure to show the oppression, injustice, humiliation to the whole community of the outcastes in India. Bakha symbolizes the exploitation and oppression which has been the fate of untouchables like him. His anguish and humiliation are not of his alone, but the suffering of whole outcastes and underdogs. Untouchableà shows the evil of untouchability in Hindu Society The novels emphasis on an individuals attempt to emancipate himself from the age old evil of untouchability. Anand is here, concerned with evils of untouchability and the need for radical empathy. He describes the pathetic conditions of the untouchables through the character Bakha, their immitigable hardships and physical and mental agonies almost with the meticulous skill of historical raconteur. In the words of Marlene Fisher:ââ¬Å"Anands first novel, then, is at one and the same time a fine piece ofà creative work in terms of its own artistic integrity and an indication of it authors humanistic commitments and future novelistic directions. Butà Jhootanà of Omprakash is a novel of the untouchable , by the untouchable and yet not merely for the untouchable but for everyoneââ¬â¢sà reading. Omprakashââ¬â¢s narrative voice inà Jhootanà à brims with a quiet sense of outrage at what he had to endure as a human. We can see his memoir as a form of Satyagraha . The book veritably à becomes ââ¬Ëthe axe for the frozen sea inside us. ââ¬â¢ More Indians ought to readà J hootanà à and let its sharp edges get to operate à inside them.

A Feminist Criticism of a Farewell to Arms Essay Essay Example
A Feminist Criticism of a Farewell to Arms Essay Essay Example A Feminist Criticism of a Farewell to Arms Essay Paper A Feminist Criticism of a Farewell to Arms Essay Paper Essay Topic: A Farewell to Arms After completing A Farewell to Arms. I found it hard to accommodate Judith Fetterleyââ¬â¢s feminist onslaught of the novel with my ain personal sentiments. I agree that Hemingway does kick adult females to the kerb in his portraiture of Catherine. but my grounds for traping this offense on Hemingway are different from hersââ¬â¢ . Although she means good. Fetterley makes the pathetic claim that by portraying Catherine as an angelic. altruistically loving ââ¬Å"woman to stop all adult females. â⬠Hemingway disguises misogynous attitudes and a deep-seeded hatred towards the XX chromosome. This claim is non supported by the text. If we look at Hemingway through the lens of his ain words. we find that his misogynism does non jump from a ââ¬Å"too good to be trueâ⬠portrayal of Catherine. but instead in his inclination to project her down into the dirt-Catherine is a dependent. baby-manufacturing trap that stifles Lieutenant Henry: ââ¬Å"Poor. hapless beloved Cat. And this was the monetary value you paid for kiping together. This was the terminal of the trapâ⬠( 320 ) . It is his preference for sex and his demand for feminine comfort that keeps Henry coming back to Catherine. non some impression of ââ¬Å"loveâ⬠or true connexion. This is Hemingwayââ¬â¢s misogynism. nevertheless unwilled. unmasked. But to acquire a true sense of this ââ¬Å"anti-Fetterleyâ⬠feminist position of the novel. it is of import excessively look at the particulars of Hemingwayââ¬â¢s building of Catherine-facts that stand in direct resistance to Fetterleyââ¬â¢s declared onslaughts. First of all. Catherine is non Fetterleyââ¬â¢s unique and unachievable goddess-she is an object in Henryââ¬â¢s existence. a banquet of esthesiss but nil more. She is kindred to good nutrient and good drink: ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËI was made to eat. My God. yes. Eat and imbibe and kip with Catherineâ⬠( 233 ) . Indeed. Henryââ¬â¢s ideas about Catherine. both when he is at the forepart or by her side. mingle with yearnings for good vino and contemplations on deluxe repasts. In Henryââ¬â¢s universe. a good Capri would be nice. a nice hunk of cheese would be expansive. and kiping with Catherine would be empyreal. These things all equate to the satisfaction of basic human demands. Every now and so. Henry feels a rumble in his loins-a periodic hungriness for the ââ¬Å"cheeseâ⬠between Catherineââ¬â¢s legs. Hemingway dissolves Catherine into the least common denominator-the object. devoid of significance or existent importance ( when Henry isnââ¬â¢t hungry ) . How can Catherine be an angel. as Fetterley claims. when she is simply an object. a little. rocklike satellite revolving Planet Henry? This leads us to another facet of Hemingwayââ¬â¢s intervention of Catherine. In the novel. she is a wholly dependent and subservient slave to Henry and his desires-she is placed steadfastly under his heel. This is apparent from her duologue: ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢m good. Arenââ¬â¢t I good? You donââ¬â¢t want any other misss. make you? â⬠¦ You see? Iââ¬â¢m good. I do what you wantâ⬠( 106 ) . Through her words. we get a sense that the lone thing that concerns Catherine is the degree of Henryââ¬â¢s satisfaction. She needs his blessing ; he is the beginning and terminal of her universe. This dependence resurfaces many times in the novel. In Milan. Catherine works herself to the bone all twenty-four hours. so that she can hold sex with Henry all dark. Throughout this period. her greatest concern is that she doesnââ¬â¢t tack up to the misss that he has had in the yesteryear: ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢ll state merely what you wish and Iââ¬â¢ll do what you wish and so you will neer desire any other girlsâ⬠( 105 ) . When she is pregnant. her ideas and concerns continue to focus on wholly around Henryââ¬â¢s felicity: ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËBut after sheââ¬â¢s Born and Iââ¬â¢m thin once more Iââ¬â¢m traveling to cut it ( her hair ) and so Iââ¬â¢ll be a all right new and different miss for youâ⬠( 304 ) . Even during her long and backbreaking labour. Catherineââ¬â¢s individual concern is that she is a load on Henry: ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËOh. I wanted so o have this babe and non do problem. and now Iââ¬â¢m all done and all gone to pieces and it doesnââ¬â¢t workâ⬠( 322 ) . Fetterley might claim that this amounts to ââ¬Å"selfless-love. â⬠but I think this phrase gives Catherine ( and Hemingway ) excessively much recognition. Catherine. as portrayed in the text. seems more like an obedient Canis familiaris so a virtuous. unselfish being of visible radiation ; she is like a cur that serves its maestro because it has no 1 else and can non last on its ain. By the terminal of the n ovel. Hemingway succeeds in portraying Catherine as both an object and a docile topic in Lieutenant Henryââ¬â¢s land. This building diminishes Catherineââ¬â¢s character and allows Henry ( and Hemingway ) to see her and the babe wholly in footings of the load they entail. They are a ââ¬Å"trapâ⬠-flames that burn the log that ââ¬Å"Henry the antâ⬠scurries around on. This makes it much easier for Hemingway to kill off Catherine and rinse Henryââ¬â¢s custodies of all responsibility-the concluding pieces in his misogynous mystifier. This rough return is a more well-founded alternate to Fetterleyââ¬â¢s womens rightist onslaughts on the novel.
